The Blue Box Under a Bed

Today’s mystery is rather sad, so if you’re highly sensitive please stop reading. Instead, grab a warm cup of milk –any type will do– and go watch the rain.

For everyone else, this mystery revolves around little Barbie. A sweet and precocious six year old who had a problem with her overzealous nature…

Every birthday, Christmas, or gift giving event, sweet dear Barbie would wander into her parents rooms to go on a search for her gift. She would tiptoe into the master bedroom and sneakily crawl under the bed, lifting each bow and ribbon, to take a peek inside.

But then one dark and dreary evening, her parents came home in a rush, holding a beautifully decorated box with bright silver & blue ribbons and tassels. They quietly went to their room before taking their sweet child aside. “My dear. Whatever you do. Do not look inside that box!” They warned her.

But little Barbie knew that her birthday was very close, only a few months away! So what was in the box? Was it for her?

Her parents would catch her trying to sneak into their room, so they’d take her to the kitchen, sit her down, and tell her once again. “My dear. Whatever you do. Do not look inside that box!”

And do you think that little Barbie listened? Of course not!

It didn’t take long until that fateful day, when her mother heard a small, frightened squeal come from the bedroom. She ran inside only to find the box, now unwrapped and open, glowing ominously. Coming from inside the box was Barbie’s distant cries which grew further and further away before disappearing altogether, forever.

The box was then wrapped up tightly and taken to the basement of an old library in Maurritsbane, one which is run by one of my dear friends.

I wonder what happened to sweet little Barbie? I guess the lesson was well learned. But was the lesson to listen to your parents? Or simply not to be nosey?
